Classique

I recently had the pleasure of discovering another classic gem from Privada: The Classique. This Dominican cigar boasts a remarkable 10-year aging process and sports an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper.

Let’s start with the wrapper itself. It might surprise you, but upon first glance, it doesn’t quite resemble your typical Connecticut shade wrapper. Instead, it’s notably darker in appearance, bearing a striking resemblance to a maduro wrapper. This darker hue seems fitting for a cigar of this age.

As for the initial impressions, they unequivocally signal the influence of aging. It’s a flavour profile that’s immediately recognisable. I detected notes of hay, aged wood, a subtle musty mushroom essence, and the gentlest hint of white pepper that left a mild, numbing sensation on my tongue.

One minor quibble was the draw, which felt a tad tight and required a bit more effort than I would have liked to produce an ample amount of smoke. However, the cigar’s burn and ash retention were impeccable. Admittedly, I did unintentionally ash at the beginning of the final third, which led to a slight hiccup in the burn—my fault entirely.

Despite the occasional fleeting hints of different flavours, the overall taste remained consistent throughout the smoking experience.

In terms of strength and flavour, this cigar leans towards the milder side of the spectrum.
