Don Toirac

First of all, the size — this has to be close to the perfect cigar format. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy cigars big and small, but visually this vitola just looks spot on. (6 x 52)

And speaking of visually perfect, have a look at this band. Absolutely stunning. Very regal, with a classic old-world feel. Best of all, the back of the band features a gentleman inspecting a tobacco field while wearing, of course, a Panama hat. I’m fairly sure it’s illegal to walk through a tobacco farm without one.

The draw starts extremely loose but settles nicely by the second third. Early on I’m getting white pepper, cloves, burnt cedar, and dried fruits. The profile stays fairly consistent throughout the smoke, but honestly, it’s so enjoyable that it never really needs dramatic transitions to stay interesting.

The only notable shift came near the end, where a black tea note started to emerge. Privada’s flavour descriptions were pretty accurate here, as they usually are.

Construction was excellent across the board — razor-sharp burn, firm ash that held on well, and once the draw settled, the smoke output and resistance were right where I like them.

Strength sat around medium-full, and the flavour intensity matched it well.
